Dr. Alejandro Elorriaga ClaracoEducational objectives:

  1. to provide course participants with the neurofunctional and neuroanatomical knowledge necessary to perform a competent evaluation of the peripheral nervous system
  2. to provide course participants with the functional and architectural anatomy knowledge necessary to evaluate manually the movement capabilities of the joints
  3. to provide participants with a set of manual techniques for the treatment of peripheral nerve functional sensitization
  4. to provide participants with a set of manual techniques for the treatment of articular restriction

Outcome learning objectives:

At the end of the three day course participants will:

  1. understand the process of assessing movement capabilities using accessory movements and directional loading of the joints
  2. understand the process of assessing peripheral nervous system sensitivity and associated tensional problems
  3. know how to use the Living Anatomy Palpation System to modify tensional integrity of the peripheral nervous system and associated soft tissues on the upper and lower extremities main nerves
  4. know how to use the Living Anatomy Palpation System to modify tensional integrity of the articular capsule, associated ligaments and periarticular tissues of the main joints of the upper and lower extremities

Day 1 – Friday (7 hours)

Lecture: “Manual assessment of movement capabilities and peripheral nervous system sensitivity and tension: Anatomical and Functional basis”

Live case: patient with a musculoskeletal complaint.
Explanation: a manual neurofunctional and movement capabilities integrated tensional assessment will be performed followed by a discussion of an optimal treatment plan using manual techniques. Emphasis will be on treatment goals that can be achieved using specific manual soft tissue techniques. A limited demonstration treatment will be performed in order to illustrate the techniques. A case summary with discussion of future management will be provided upon completion of treatment.

  • This session includes the discussion of how to best select different techniques for different kind of problems/clinical findings. Small hands on demonstrations will illustrate the techniques.
  • This session combines computer presentation (provided with handouts), flip chart drawings, and the specific technique demonstrations.

Workshop: functional evaluation of the movement capabilities of the joints of the upper extremity
Selected hands on exercises will be provided to practice the functional assessment of detailed articular function on the joints of the upper extremity.

Workshop: functional evaluation of the movement capabilities of the joints of the lower extremity
Selected hands on exercises will be provided to practice the functional assessment of detailed articular function on the joints of the lower extremity.

Practical case: using one of course participants a selection of techniques will be demonstrated and reviewed. Questions and answer period.

Lecture: “Neurofunctional Soft Tissue Micro-Conditioning™ [NSTMC™] system for the treatment of peripheral nerves and associated joints: review and discussion of techniques”

Workshop: restoring movement capabilities and nerve mobility on the joints of the upper extremity and selected brachial plexus branches using the NSTMC™ system (part 1)
Selected hands on exercises will be provided to practice the release and micro-conditioning of the nerves of the brachial plexus and associated joints.

Workshop: restoring movement capabilities and nerve mobility on the joints of the upper extremity and selected brachial plexus branches using the NSTMC™ system (part 2)
Selected hands on exercises will be provided to practice the release and micro-conditioning of the nerves of the brachial plexus and associated joints.

Workshop: restoring movement capabilities and nerve mobility on the joints of the lower extremity and selected lumbar plexus branches using the NSTMC™ system
Selected hands on exercises will be provided to practice the release and micro-conditioning of the nerves of the brachial plexus and associated joints.

Workshop: restoring movement capabilities and nerve mobility on the joints of the lower extremity and selected sacral plexus branches using the NSTMC™ system
Selected hands on exercises will be provided to practice the release and micro-conditioning of the nerves of the brachial plexus and associated joints.

Workshop: restoring movement capabilities and nerve mobility on the joints and nerves of the foot.
Selected hands on exercises will be provided to practice the release and micro-conditioning of the nerves of the brachial plexus and associated joints.

Workshop: practical case using all program participants working in pairs. One hour each case: 30 minutes for personal work and 30 minutes for discussion and feedback (part 1)
